It may have taken a very long time, and come off of a very bumpy road, but Accidental Love is on the verge of actually being seen! For those of you that don’t know the backstory, the film began as a David O. Russell (American Hustle, The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook) joint, before production came to a standstill in 2008. Most of the film was in the can, but the financing dropped off, people weren’t getting paid, and the whole thing came to a screeching halt after 3 failed restarts.
Somewhere in the last six years, Russell made a ton of great movies, and was nominated for five Oscars, so he walked away from this film. It was once called Politics of Love, then Nailed, and will now be released as Accidental Love, under the supposed direction of one “Stephen Greene.” That name is likely a pseudonym, as Russell had completed most of the film, and whatever was left was handled by the film’s producers somewhere in the last 7 years.
The trailer for the dark romantic comedy, which may have become more relevant in the years since it was made thanks to the national attention devoted to affordable healthcare, can be seen below:
As you can see from the poster above, the film has a great cast. The premise looks like screwball fun, and it may actually have something to say. You can check it out on VOD starting on February 10th, or in theaters when it premieres on the 20th.
