With DC Universe’s Swamp Thing scheduled to make it’s debut sometime in 2019, the production team has been busy putting together the cast. In the last few days they have added Will Patton who will play Avery Sunderland, Virgina Madsen as Maria Sunderland and Jeryl Prescott as Madame Xanadu. Today The Wrap is reporting that Swamp Thing has found a set of actors to play both the creature Swamp Thing as well as it’s human alter ego, Alec Holland.

Warner Bros. has announced that Derek Mears will portray Swamp Thing, while Andy Bean will play Alec Holland. The character is described as,
“emerging from the swamp with a monstrous physique and strange new powers over plant life, the man who was once Alec Holland struggles to hold onto his humanity. When dark forces converge on the town of Marais, Swamp Thing must embrace what he has become in order to defend the town as well as the natural world at large. Prior to his life as the elemental hero, Holland was a biologist who gets caught in the crosshairs of a small town nightmare, when he discovers a bizarre local illness may be connected to his work in the swamp.”

Bean will soon be seen on the big screen playing the adult version of Stanley in It: Chapter 2. This will not be the first time Mears plays a supernatural being as he played the role of Jason Voorhees in the 2009 Friday the 13th reboot.

The Swamp Thing series will follow Abby Arcane, played by Gotham’s Crystal Reed, as she investigates what she thinks is a deadly swamp born virus in a small Louisiana town, but soon finds out that the swamp has many mystical and terrifying secrets. It will be executive produced by James Wan, Mark Verheiden, Gary Dauberman, Michael Clear and Len Wiseman. It is produced by Atomic Monster is association with Warner Bros. Television. The pilot episode is written by Verheiden and Dauberman, with Wiseman set to direct.
