DC’s Stargirl Renewed For Second Season, Moves From DC Universe To CW

DC’s Stargirl gets renewed and finds a new home, but should fans be concerned?

Stargirl has been renewed for a second season, Deadline reports. According to them, the new season will air exclusively on the CW, which is slightly different from the way things shake out right now. Currently, Stargirl releases on DC Universe first then airs a day later on the CW. You can find all the past episodes airing on the CW’s free streaming platform, but the downside is you will have to deal with ads.

This news is exciting because, as a fan of this show, I get another season. Granted, we are only halfway through this season and it could tank like some of the other DC shows do on occasion on the CW. It seems doubtful given the care the showrunners seem to have for the show. What is bothersome about the news is it becoming a CW-only show.

From the first episode, Stargirl clearly let us see they have a bigger budget than other CW DC shows like The Flash. Some of what the show has been able to do both in acting and effects, in theory, have to diminish in order to meet the budget requirements of a CW show. Not knowing where they are ultimately heading with the show, some of the budget spent on actors could diminish by season end.

Don’t get me wrong, some of the Arrowverse shows have been enjoyable at times. Other times, they do lean heavily on villain of the week, sacrificing character development or plot progression. These complaints have led some to abandon the show. Stargirl has a story that progresses with each episode, stays away from the villain of the week, and has actors who appear to enjoy what they are doing. Maybe the show has hit at a time when it was most needed because it offers hope.

Reaction to any show is going to be subjective, so take these next words with a grain of salt. Stargirl has quickly become one of DC’s best offerings in some time. I think it could break the mold of what the CW has previously offered with DC shows and would enjoy seeing this happen. My hope is the CW sees the possibilities with Stargirl and doesn’t waste the opportunity. I will now exit my soapbox and turn it over to you to comment below.
