Deadpool 2 Projected To Open Around $305-$350 Million This Weekend Worldwide

With Avengers: Infinity War’s record opening now behind us, the next contender on the super summer slate is Fox’s Deadpool 2, featuring everyone’s favorite Merc with the Mouth giving it all a second go-around.

Deadline reports that Deadpool 2 is set to make $305-$350 million worldwide this weekend.

Analysts have it hitting between $130 million to $150 million domestically, with $175 million to $200 million coming from the rest of the globe. That’s not Avengers: Infinity War numbers, as though Deadpool 2 does have Josh Brolin, it does not have Black Panther.

Still, these numbers are nothing to scoff at. Compared to the first film, which was considered a wild success, Deadpool 2 is not falling short. The original Deadpool opened in 2016 over the Valentine’s/President’s Day weekend, becoming the top R-rated US opening for a film ever with $132.4 million over 3-days, and $152.1 million including the Holiday Monday. Overseas the film opened to $149.9 million over the course of several months, finally ending up with $420 million, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film both overseas and worldwide with $783.1 million.

Deadpool 2 currently has an 85% certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, beating Deadpool’s 83%. I gave the film a B+ in my review for LRM. It is a better film than the first, so hopefully it connects with audiences and can out gross the original, even with Solo: A Star Wars Story coming out next week…
