Occasionally, there are bands, movies, or TV shows that are just cool to hate. Sometimes, the hate is for a good reason, and other times it’s only hated because it’s cool to be hated on. Case in point: Star Wars: The Last Jedi (aaaand there go the comments). Obviously, that last part is a joke (or is it?), but you get the gist of it. These days, there are very popular things are also popular for being unpopular.

This is the case with the rock band Nickelback. I’ll admit, I never got the hate. Granted, I probably couldn’t name one of their songs to save my life, but I never really understood why it became popular online to hate on them so hard. But indeed it did, and in a recent teaser for Once Upon a Deadpool, Fred Savage took a solid dig at them. It was a funny joke, but I’d be lying if a part of me wasn’t a bit disappointed that Deadpool took the easy, online-friendly Nickelback punchline.

Well, now they’ve more than made up for it in the latest teaser.

In it, Deadpool calls out the Nickelback-hating (“You think that makes you cool with the cool kids in school, Fred?”). He then goes on to name off all their accolades before both him and Savage go on to sing one of their big hits together, hands held in unison. Way to break the wall twice over on this one, Fox! And, of course, Nickelback themselves got in on the fun with a response to this whole deal on Twitter.
