Death On The Nile Begins Production, Full All-Star Cast Includes Gal Gadot!

I love me a good whodunnit mystery. It was a genre that was popularized by the great Agatha Christie, and arguably, one of her most well-known works was Murder on the Orient Express. You could understand my enthusiasm when I learned that director Kenneth Branagh would be taking the helm and that it would feature an all-star cast. Sadly, the end result was a letdown.

The film was drawn-out and a bit boring. And yet, I couldn’t really hate it because of all the talent involved. It was one of those projects I hoped we’d get a second shot at with all the same creatives, in hopes that they’ve learned from their mistakes. That’s exactly what’s happening with the follow-up film Death on the Nile, which comes from Kenneth Branagh, once again directing and playing the enigmatic Hercule Poirot.

Now, in an announcement from 20th Century Fox, we have learned that production has officially begun!

Kenneth Branagh is joined by a new set of all-star suspects, including Tom Bateman (who reprises the role of Bouc from Murder on the Orient Express), four-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening (Captain Marvel), Russell Brand (Ballers), Ali Fazal (Victoria & Abdul), Dawn French (French and Saunders), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Armie Hammer (Call Me by Your Name), Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones), Emma Mackey (Sex Education), Sophie Okonedo (The Secret Life of Bees), Jennifer Saunders (Absolutely Fabulous) and Letitia Wright (Black Panther).

The screenplay is based on Agatha Christie’s 1937 novel of the same name and is once again adapted by Michael Green.

Below is the official synopsis for Death on the Nile:

“In Death on the Nile, Hercule Poirot’s Egyptian adventure aboard a glamorous river steamer descends into a terrifying search for a murderer when an idyllic honeymoon is shattered by violent deaths. This sinister tale of obsessive love and its murderous consequences plays out in an epic landscape of danger and foreboding, with enough shocking twists and turns to leave audiences unsettled and guessing until the final, shocking denouement. “

“Crimes of passion are dangerously sexy,” Kenneth Branagh said in a statement. “Agatha Christie has written a riveting story of emotional chaos and violent criminality and Michael Green has once again written a screenplay to match. With a cherished group of long-time artistic collaborators and a brilliant international cast, it is truly a pleasure to join Disney, Fox and Agatha Christie, Ltd. in bringing this daring thriller to the big screen. There are significant new twists, an awe-inspiring desert landscape and a chance to celebrate big screen entertainment in glorious 65 millimetre celluloid!”

So, what do you think? Are you excited to see Branagh return to the world of Hercule Poirot? Were you as lukewarm on Murder on the Orient Express as I was? Let us know down below!
