Detective Pikachu Locks Down Bill Nighy And Chris Geere

Production seems to be either underway, or at least nearing that point. Not long ago, we learned that veteran actor Ken Watanabe would be joining the video game adaptation, and now Legendary has announced two more unexpected faces that will join the mystery.

Signing on alongside Ryan Reynolds are the legendary Bill Nighy and TV actor Chris Geere. Of course , any audiences are very familiar with Nighy’s work. He’s starred in such films as Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, as well as beloved hits like Love Actually. Geere is the lesser known of the two, starring mostly in TV series, and perhaps most notably and recently starring in Modern Family as Professor Arvin Fennerman.

Detective Pikachu is directed by Goosebumps helmer Rob Letterman and hails from a screenplay from Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch and Guardians of the Galaxy writer Nicole Perlman.

While a Pokémon-centric film has been long overdue, most fans likely expected any such film to involve the catching and training of actual Pokémon, not unlike what the anime series has been doing for decades now. However, in an out-of-left-field decision, Legendary instead decided to adapt the game Great Detective Pikachu, which follows a speaking, grizzled Pikachu.

The more we hear about the talent behind this film, the more interesting it sounds. What do you think of Nighy and Geere joining the cast? Let us know your thoughts down below!
