Detective Pikachu Trailer: The 3DS Game Nears Its North American Release

It’s a bit ironic that the Pokémon video game that’s getting its own Hollywood movie hasn’t been released in North America just yet. However, if you’ve been confused by all the Detective Pikachu news lately, and had no idea where the idea sprouted from, you’re in luck.

Detective Pikachu is a 3DS game that hit Japanese shelves last year. On March 23, it will have finished its long trek to North American markets. If you want just the tiniest flavor of what the Ryan Reynolds-led movie is adapting its material from, then you need look no further than the trailer above.

Here is the official synopsis for the Detective Pikachu game:

“In Detective Pikachu, a new game coming on March 23rd for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems, you can team up with the self-proclaimed “great detective” Pikachu to solve a puzzling case involving oddly behaving Pokémon and discover a possible connection to the mysterious Mewtwo while encountering many characters in Ryme City. “

After seeing the trailer, it may seem a bit odd that they went with this story, but the potential is undeniable. In terms of gameplay, if you’re a fan of games like Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright, this may be up your alley.
