Director Eli Roth’s Death Wish Remake Starring Bruce Willis Gets A Trailer

If one were to ask me what film I’d want to see a remake of, I wouldn’t have ever picked Death Wish. The original Charles Bronson film was fun enough, but in a world where we have characters like The Punisher and movies like Taken and John Wick, it really doesn’t do much to stand out in any meaningful way. Add to that the relatively low name recognition of Death Wish outside of film fans, and there really didn’t seem to be much reason to go back to the well on this one.

However, I became a bit more interested when Eli Roth got involved. While I’m not a huge fan of his, he has an unmistakable flare and vision that could take this film in an unexpected direction. MGM has now officially released the first official trailer for the flick for all to see.

Admittedly, I’m not too crazy on the flick — at least based on the trailer. It looks like it could be another solid revenge flick, but there’s nothing really about how it’s shot, acted, or presented that screams unique or different. Bruce Willis, again, seems to be phoning it in, playing the same exact character we’ve seen for the past 10 films, and not seeming to put forth any unique effort. Now, don’t get me wrong, this could still be an entertaining flick, but if they’re trying to sell me on something that’s even slightly above par, then they haven’t really done their job.

The official synopsis for Death Wish is below:

“Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures presents director Eli Roth’s reimagining of the classic 1974 revenge thriller DEATH WISH. Dr. Paul Kersey (Bruce Willis) is a surgeon who only sees the aftermath of Chicago violence when it is rushed into his ER – until his wife (Elisabeth Shue) and college-age daughter (Camila Morrone) are viciously attacked in their suburban home. With the police overloaded with crimes, Paul, burning for revenge, hunts his family’s assailants to deliver justice. As the anonymous slayings of criminals grabs the media’s attention, the city wonders if this deadly vigilante is a guardian angel or a grim reaper. Fury and fate collide in the intense, action-thriller DEATH WISH.”
