Director Kevin Smith Suffers Massive Heart Attack, Is Currently Recovering

Filmmaker/podcaster/all-around geek Kevin Smith has suffered a massive heart attack. Luckily, this news comes directly via a tweet from Smith himself, which shows a selfie of him in a hospital bed.

Here’s what the filmmaker had to say:

“After the first show this evening, I had a massive heart attack. The Doctor who saved my life told me I had 100% blockage of my LAD artery (aka “the Widow-Maker”). If I hadn’t canceled show 2 to go to the hospital, I would’ve died tonight. But for now, I’m still above ground!”

The filmmaker also took to Instagram, where he shared a whole lot more of his in-depth feelings.

I, for one, am incredibly happy that Smith appears to be in such good spirits after such a life-threatening moment, and the photo from a hospital bed was such a textbook Kevin Smith moment. Obviously, there is little knowing the “why” behind it all, but there’s no doubt that Smith has always had some trouble on the scale.

In recent years, however, Smith has gone on and off of a diet with no added sugar, and as a result, he did seem to have lost a good deal of weight, which is no small feat. Smith is rarely one to go unchanged by events, and on the heels of this, here’s hoping that he follows his doctor’s orders to the letter, and works to get healthier than ever before so as to avoid another serious visit.
