Disney’s Aladdin To Feature Two New Songs

2019 is set to be a huge year for Disney as they are bringing back three of their classic animated films to life, well two of them at least because I’m not sure you can count The Lion King as “live action”. Dumbo will be featured first in March, but right behind that one in May will be the beloved Disney classic animated film, Aladdin directed by Guy Ritchie.

We have seen a teaser trailer showing a pretty close interpretation to what we got back in 1992. But according to Variety, this version of Aladdin will have a couple new songs. Oscar and Tony winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the duo behind La La Land and The Greatest Showman, have collaborated with musical legend Alan Menken to for a couple of new songs for the film.

They revealed to Variety some of the details about the new songs when they caught up with them at Soho House in West Hollywood. First there will be a new song for Jasmine, played by Naomi Scott, who did not have one in the animated film. “We got to write a new song for Jasmine,” Paul said. “Alan wrote a beautiful piece of music and [Scott] is incredible.”

Also it was reveled that they also have written a new duet for Aladdin, played by Mena Massoud and Jasmine, which Paul calls “sweet”. Last they mentioned that they got to write a new verse for the classic “Arabian Nights” song from the film.

So far Disney has done a decent job bringing back some of our childhood favorites back so we can enjoy them with this generations little ones. It will be interesting to see in which spots the new songs fit in. But let’s be honest, new songs are great but most of us just want the classics.
