Doctor Strange Writer Returning For Sequel — Does This Mean Nightmare Will Be The Villain?

Doctor Strange was directed by Scott Derrickson from a script by C. Robert Cargill and whilst we have known for some time Derrickson would be back to direct the sequel, there was no confirmation of Cargill returning, until now. That Hashtag Show has reported that Cargill has now signed on to pen the script for the sequel and work again with director Derrickson. This also clues us in to what the plans might be for Doctor Strange 2 as Cargill had previously talked about the direction he’d take the sequel if given the chance.

Cargill said previously that they wanted Nightmare as the villain of Doctor Strange, but after some suggestions from Kevin Feige, they decided Strange’s origin was not the best place for the villain to appear. But Cargill did talk about plans for Doctor Strange 2 and said that Nightmare would definitely be the villain. He also previously talked about what they would do with Baron Mordo and it appears like they want to follow the same path as the comics did with this character. So you can bet that Chiwetel Ejiofor will be returning as Strange’s former ally, even if he is not the main antagonist.

Currently, we have no set date for Doctor Strange 2 (though Feige said it is definitely coming) to appear. However, it’s highly likely that when it does get announced, we will be seeing Strange go up against Nightmare and that conflict will for sure be of interest to Baron Mordo who has decided to seemingly stop all unnatural magic.

Are you happy that Cargill will re-team with Derrickson for Doctor Strange 2, are you happy with Nightmare as the villain? Use your magical powers of prose to tell us your thoughts in the usual place below.
