Domnhall Gleeson Talks About Reading The Script For Star Wars The Rise Of Skywalker For The First Time

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be with us in around four months’ time and most of what we have to go on thus far is leaks and rumors. The Rise of Skywalker will see not only the end of this sequel trilogy, but the end of the nine-part Skywalker Saga. That’s quite the pressure on director JJ Abrams and his team, and if I am honest I have never felt Abrams was the right man for Star Wars, however, the box office for The Force Awakens seemed to suggest otherwise.

Abrams replaced Colin Trevorrow as the director of Episode 9 and made huge changes it seems to the film and the end of this saga. One actor who definitely seems pleased with the script is Domnhall Gleeson who plays General Hux in all three Star Wars sequel trilogy movies. Gleeson was recently interviewed by Collider and talked about how he felt when he read the script for The Rise of Skywalker for the first time.

“It was cool, it was a page-turner. It was different than what I had thought. It was great. It was exciting. And, also, you feel part of this tiny club that gets to read these things ahead of other people and that feels great. I really did enjoy that. I think it’s gonna be cool.”

To be fair, Gleeson is hardly going to say anything critical about the script for the movie, but so far the cast seems to be very positive about the story for this finale, at least those that have discussed it openly. I think as the only one of the LRM team who has read all of the potential leaks, if they turn out to be accurate I think I have a pretty good idea of the entire plot of the movie. That’s not particularly knowledge I want to have, but somebody has to take one for the team I guess?

I have some doubts about whether the plot I think will happen is going to work, however without some context around many things we probably don’t know, it’s all up in the air. I hope it’s very good, I hope it makes me look at The Last Jedi as an important episode of the saga finally, and I hope it does feel like the ending to all nine Star Wars Skywalker Saga movies. I guess you should tune in to our special The Last Call Podcast the day of release to find out what we here at LRM thought of the movie once we have seen it. We do plan to cover the first 20 minutes or so with spoiler-free comments and then we are going to get into the nitty-gritty of it all. In the meantime check out the previous The Last Call Podcasts with host Kyle Malone, myself and guests to see how we rate each Star Wars movie in chronological order, this month we record The Empire Strikes Back where I will attempt to convince Editor in Chief Joseph ‘Jammer’ Medina that Empire is indeed the best Star Wars movie ever.
