If you’re looking forward to the upcoming Halo series on Showtime, and you can’t wait to see it happen, then you should probably adjust your expectations.
While at the TV Critics Association press tour, Showtime president of programming Gary Levine was asked when we can expect the show to hit, and he emphasized how big of a project it is, saying, “It’s an enormous undertaking, so I would say probably in 2020.”
While he didn’t give an exact date, that gives us roughly two years or so before we can finally see Master Chief fully realized in live-action form (and no, I’m sorry, but I don’t count those webisodes, as I felt like that more resembled glorified cosplay). It may seem like a long time away, but considering how long we’ve waited for this to happen, this ain’t so bad.

While Halo has had countless games across multiple Microsoft consoles, it’s had a storied development in Hollywood. For the longest time, Lord of the Rings‘ Peter Jackson was attached to it, but that never happened. This past June, David Nevins, CEO at Showtime expressed their excitement in finally taking it on:
“Halo is our most ambitious series ever, and we expect audiences who have been anticipating it for years to be thoroughly rewarded. In the history of television, there simply has never been enough great science fiction. Kyle Killen’s scripts are thrilling, expansive and provocative, Rupert Wyatt is a wonderful, world-building director, and their vision of Halo will enthrall fans of the game while also drawing the uninitiated into a world of complex characters that populate this unique universe.”
