Doom: Annihilation Trailer Offers A Glimpse Into Hell On Mars

Doom: Annihilation from Battle Mountain Films follows a group of UAC Marines as they respond to a distress call from a top secret scientific base on Phobos, a Martian moon, only to discover it’s been overrun by demons who threaten to create Hell on Earth (Shouldn’t that be Mars?)

That’s the official synopsis (sans the last part) and to be fair it’s exactly what you’d expect from a movie version of Doom. Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past 25 years I’m guessing you have heard of or maybe even played one of the many iterations of the Doom video game. The game is a fairly simple concept, you get to Mars and a whole load of demons and other hellish beasts have ran amok. Your job is to hunt them down and exterminate every single one of them with the biggest possible guns you can find.

Doom was one of the first ever FPS shooters and really helped define that video game genre. It’s also not the first time the game has been adapted into a movie, with Karl Urban and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson starring in 2005’s Doom. I genuinely have no idea whether these two movies are connected and Doom: Annihilation acts a sequel of sorts. It doesn’t appear so from what I can tell, and frankly who really cares? If you like a Doom movie, then you probably just want to see some soldiers wrecking demons with shotguns and plasma rifles, based on the trailer you can check that box off.

Doom: Annihilation hits theaters on October 1st this year and is directed by Tony Giglio from his own screenplay. Stars include but are not limited to Amy Manson, Nina Bergman, and Louis Mandylor. As to what I think of it, well some stories work as a video game and some stories work as a movie, very rarely do the twain meet well. If mindless, gory, gun v Demon action is your thing, then this is probably right up your street, but it does not fill me with any particular desire to see this. The first film at least had Urban and Johnson in it, even though it was still awful. Can’t say I’ve ever heard of anyone involved in this one, but that’s no indication of quality for me to be fair.
