Dora The Explorer Live-Action Movie Finds Their Dora

Dora the Explorer has been an incredibly popular pre-school cartoon for many years now. Even with a seven-year age gap, my own children have both loved watching the Dora cartoon adventures in Nickelodeon when they were the appropriate age.

Its no shock to hear that Dora the Explorer is being made into a live-action movie by Paramount’s new Paramount Players division. The film will be helmed by James Bobin from a screenplay by Nick Stoller, the writer-director behind films including The Muppets and Neighbors, along with Danielle Sanchez-Witzel.

We now know that Isabela Moner (pictured above) has been cast in the titular role of Dora thanks to THR who reported on a statement made by Paramount Players president Brian Robbins on May 4th. Moner is also set to star in the studio’s upcoming family comedy Instant Family, alongside Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne.

Here’s what Robbins said about the casting choice for Dora

“We are thrilled to have found our Dora in Isabela. Dora has long been a celebrated, strong heroine in animated television, and like Dora, Isabela has an incredible spirit and is an advocate for positive values. With our partners at Nickelodeon, we look forward to continuing Dora’s story for generations to come.”

Moner herself added

“I’m honored and excited to bring Dora to life. I grew up watching the show, and for me, especially as a Latina, Dora was an amazing role model — she is a strong, adventurous and fun-loving girl. I can’t wait to put on the backpack and begin her next adventure!”

Dora the Explorer will shoot in Queensland, Australia, and is scheduled for a Aug. 2, 2019, release
