Downsizing Producer Would Be Up For Making Sequels

Out today in theaters in the little indie film Downsizing.

The film stars Matt Damon and Kristen Wiig, and takes place in a world on the verge of overpopulation. In order to combat this, scientists create a process that shrinks people down to around five inches tall.

Not only is this process much better for the environment, but it also helps stretch the dollars that these people, allowing them to have much more leisurely-fulfilling lives on the money they saved. It’s an incredibly unique and interesting concept, and one that brings in plenty of social commentary on the world we live in.

In a recent interview with our own Gig Patta, producer Mark Johnston discussed the possibilities of sequels.

“If it’s successful enough, we have a lot of material for a sequel. We never been thought to be asked for a sequel, but this one for sure. [We haven’t thought about] selling a franchise to the studio, but it could be. If people like it and they go, ‘Oh! I want to see where these people go next or before that.’”

Downsizing is a film that has a flexible and interesting premise, though would it be something that audiences would be willing to see multiple films of? I suppose we’ll have to wait and see what audiences think of this one to begin with.

Keep your eyes peeled for our full interview with Johnston and co-writer Jim Taylor!
