Eiza Gonzalez Late Cast To Hobbs And Shaw Fast And Furious Spin-Off Film

In 2011 Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson made his first appearance in the Fast and Furious franchise in Fast Five as the federal agent Luke Hobbs. Jason Statham joined a few years later in 2017 in the film The Fate of the Furious. With both being very popular actors in Hollywood and having good chemistry onscreen, Universal Pictures was looking to make a spin off film featuring both characters. Next July we are finally going to get Hobbs and Shaw in theaters everywhere.

But even with the release date quickly approaching, they have cast a last minute addition. According to Variety, Baby Driver star Eiza Gonzalez has joined the cast of the film in a key undisclosed role. Although she had always been favored for the role by executives, her schedule needed to be worked out with Legendary’s Godzilla vs. Kong which also features Gonzalez and is going to start shooting. She joins Idris Elba and Vanessa Kirby on the Hobbs and Shaw film with David Leitch directing.

Gonzalez has been busy since her breakout in Sony’s Baby Driver. She has quite a few upcoming films like Welcome to Marwen, set to debut this Christmas. This will be followed by Alita: Battle Angel and Paradise Hills. She recently finished production on Sony’s Bloodshot and is also attached to star in Kung Fury. Gonzalez is repped by CAA.

Hobbs and Shaw is being produced by both Johnson and his partners from Seven Bucks Productions Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia, along with Statham and Chris Morgan for his eponymous production company. Morgan also penned the script for the film. The executive producers will be Kelly McCormick, Steve Chaseman, Ainsley Davies and Ethan Smith. Overseeing the project at Universal will be executive vice president of production Mark Sourian and vice president of production Jay Polidoro.
