Exclusive Trailer: Doubting Thomas Raises Questions After Black Baby’s Birth to White Parents

Who’s child is it?

Every child is a miracle. But, when a white couple receives a black baby—it either a true miracle or even something more.

Based on a true story, Doubting Thomas is a dramatic film that brings an unconscious racism surrounding an innocence of a baby.

The film stars Will McFadden (Scorpion, Castle), Sarah Butler (I Spit On Your Grave, Grey’s Anatomy), Jamie Hector (Bosch, The Wire), Rob Belushi (Chicago P.D., How I Met Your Mother), Zach Cregger (Wrecked, About A Boy), James Morrison (24, Twin Peaks) and Melora Walters (Magnolia, Boogie Nights). The film is written and directed by McFadden, which as marks as his directorial debut.

Here’s the full synopsis:

Black babies don’t come from white people. Except this one just did. That’s what Jen (Butler) tells her husband Tom (McFadden). He says he believes her. But soon, amidst a constant barrage of questions from everyone, Tom’s doubts and worst fears take hold. Both new parents are scared by the thoughts entering their minds, and scared to share them with each other. Baby Liam seems to love their dear friend Ron (Hector), but why does that make it harder for Tom? And why do people confusing Ron for Liam’s father? Maybe because they’re both black. By the time a twist is revealed that could explain the baby’s appearance, it may be too late. Before Tom and Jen can accept their child, they’ll have to accept themselves or face living their lives apart.

The film has already received praise from CNN’s Van Jones, a political commentator, who Tweeted his support of this film earlier this year during its film festival run. It has won recognition at Dances With Films 2018 festival, Golden Door International Film Festival of Jersey City 2018 and Tallgrass International Film Festival 2018.

Doubting Thomas will make its theatrical run in Los Angeles on October 11 and then into its North American VOD/Digital release on October 15 through Gravitas Ventures, a Red Arrow Studios company.
