Fantastic Beasts 2 Featurette: Why The Adventure Heads To Paris

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was a fun little side adventure set in the Wizarding World, but if we’re being honest, it didn’t feel much like a standalone film as much as it felt like the start to something bigger. We’ve known for some time that this franchise would consist of five films, and based on what we’ve seen of the next film in the franchise, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, things are really going to start picking up soon.

In this new featurette, we get to see all the wheels get set in motion, starting out with an explanation as to why the adventure heads to Paris. Unsurprisingly (it was revealed long ago), Credence survived the events of the first film and is currently on a trek to find himself. Everyone is searching for him, including Newt Scamander and Grindelwald (the latter of whom was grooming him in the first film, if you’ll recall). So, it looks like Credence is the MacGuffin this time around, and coupled with the rise of Grindelwald, “we’re now getting to the meat of the story.”

Below is the official synopsis for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald:

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald opens in 1927, a few months after Newt helped to unveil and capture the infamous Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald. However, as he promised he would, Grindelwald has made a dramatic escape and has been gathering more followers to his cause—elevating wizards above all non-magical beings. The only one who might be able to stop him is the wizard he once called his dearest friend, Albus Dumbledore. But Dumbledore will need help from the wizard who had thwarted Grindelwald once before, his former student Newt Scamander. The adventure reunites Newt with Tina, Queenie and Jacob, but his mission will also test their loyalties as they face new perils in an increasingly dangerous and divided wizarding world.”
