Fantastic Beasts – Eddie Redmayne Talks Newt Scamander’s Relationship With Leta LeStrange

It’s case you somehow haven’t heard, more from the Potterverse is on the way to theaters in the form of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Actor Eddie Remayne, who plays Newt Scamander in the Fantastic Beasts franchise, spoke with Entertainment Weekly and discussed his character’s relationship with Leta Lestrange (played by Zoe Kravitz).

“Leta, it’s one of those relationships where there was definitely great love there. But was it ever a full-blown relationship? I don’t know. But certainly, she’s somebody who has touched him hugely. At the beginning of this film you realize she’s now in a relationship with Newt’s brother so, of course, that comes with great complications.”

It is interesting that Redmayne uses the word was, as in perhaps that love is not there anymore, what could have happened? Maybe she had some part in Newt being expelled from Hogwarts, we won’t know for sure until later this year.

I thought the first film was great, and was a worthy entry into the Harry Potter universe. I am as excited about this film as I would be for any major nerd franchise. I would say that as a whole, the Harry Potter films had the most consistent level of quality of any franchise, and at least for me, Fantastic Beasts continued that same level of quality and I am optimistic that The Crimes of Grindelwald will do the same.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald hits theaters November 16.
