First Look At Disney’s The Rocketeer Animated Series

I was a huge fan of The Rocketeer in the early 90’s.  So much that my father made me a rocket pack and helmet for Halloween.  Over the years there had been whispers of a possible sequel which continually never came to fruition.

Even though those rumblings come and go, Disney Jr. has green-lit their animated series for The Rocketeer. According to Comicbookmovie.com:

The Rocketeer will follow a young girl named Kit who receives a surprise birthday package revealing she’s next in line to become the Rocketeer, a legendary superhero who can take the skies with the help of a rocket-powered jetpack. Joining her on her adventures will be her “gadget-minded” best friend Tesh and her airplane mechanic uncle Ambrose.”

While that sounds alright, I am disappointed that it has been said to “depart substantially” from the original comics, which does make sense seeing as it is targeting the two to five year old age-range. You can take a look at the recently released image below:

While I am glad The Rocketeer is getting some exposure, I’d really like a live-action version to make its way back to the big-screen.  If you have never checked at Dave Stevens’ original work, I would highly recommend it. The story line is fun and fairly reflective of the 1991 Disney movie.  Fans of The Shadow should also check out the original comics as he does make an appearance.
