Game Of Thrones: A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Recap And Episode 3 Preview

Well, let me start by saying that this may well be one of my favorite ever episodes of Game of Thrones, and yet nothing really happened so to speak. This episode was all about the characters that have arrived at Winterfell for the impending battle, oh and you can catch some glimpses at next weeks episode in the preview at the bottom.

First off we get a mini-trial for Jaime and I know I have been telling fans since last week this was never going to go anywhere unless Bran got emotional, which Bran no longer does. No, Jaime has kept his word and informed them all of his sister’s betrayal in full. Not only that, but I knew he’d have Brienne and Bran on his side along with the obvious backing of Tyrion.

After this, the remainder of the episode is Winterfell preparing for the battle and on the eve of this battle, everyone has some great character moments. First Jon greets his friends from the North who have made it back around the dead in time for the battle. Dany is convinced to go easy on Tyrion by Jorah, who gets Heartsbane from Sam. Dany then tries to make amends with Sansa, and whilst at first, it goes well with her essentially confirming she and Jon are in love, things do go cold, before they are interrupted by the arrival of Theon Greyjoy. Theon and Sana do get a nice little emotional moment, due to their shared experiences at the hands of Ramsay Bolton.

The heroes formulate a plan which essentially sees Bran being used as bait to draw out the Night King. This also confirms the theory that Bran is the top target of the Night King, something we speculated on in the lead up to this season. The living are going to be outnumbered and their only hope seems to be killing the Night King, we shall see if that happens or not.

After this, the characters all get together to prepare for a sleepless night before battle and for me some of Thrones best ever scenes are here. The gathering of people around the fire that Jaime and Tyrion are already conversing near was wonderful. I was full on laughing out loud at Tormund’s tall tale around how he got the name Giantsbane. Yes, it was already in the books at an earlier stage, but it’s the delivery of actor Kristofer Hivju that really got me.

We also get to see Lady Brienne, sorry, Ser Brienne of Tarth knighted by Jaime Lannister in a very emotional scene. I have seen many fans predict everyone is going to die, because they have had certain character arcs fulfilled, but for me, it’s just the removal of plot armor. If we think there is a chance anyone can die then it makes next week’s episode even more exciting to watch. Also, are we getting a little love triangle forming between Brienne, Jaime, and Tormund here?

I also loved the scene between Arya, The Hound, and Beric, and again I was laughing out loud. When Beric starts getting all preachy and Clegane just tells him to shut up, or his God will be pissed that he brought him back just for Clegane to throw him off the wall, yeah that got me.

Oh and we can cross another long term theory off the list this week as well. For one, Arya and Gendry getting it on. Fans have been shipping these two since Gendry first appeared and it was even foreshadowed in the very start of the show when King Robert tells Ned Stark they should joining houses by marrying his Son to Ned’s daughter. Well, wrong son and wrong daughter, but I always felt this would happen in the end.

Finally, we have Jon deliver the news to Dany at for me the perfect time, just before they have time to really consider the implications. I also thought Dany’s reaction to the news and Jon’s delivery was perfect for the moment. I think my only surprise in this episode was that Bronn didn’t show up just before the battle began. Either way, I was grinning like a big kid from start to finish this week. Check out the preview for next week, if you dare.
