Get ready to rejoice, folks! We have a rough air date of the final season of Game of Thrones! After several long years of following the power struggle in the Seven Kingdoms, we’ll be seeing whose ass will be sitting on that throne all too soon. But how soon exactly?

At the TV Critics Association event going on right now, HBO programming president Casey Bloys revealed that Game of Thrones will air its final season in the first half of 2019, THR editor Lesley Goldberg revealed via Twitter. This goes against earlier speculation that a summer 2019 airing was likely, given the overall schedule of the series.

We doubt few fans will be complaining about seeing the show sooner rather than later, but it is a bit bittersweet. Yes, we’re all excited to see things wrap up, but when that happens we’ll be saying goodbye to countless beloved characters that have worked their ways into our living rooms for years. Plus, given the nature of the show, few are guaranteed a happy ending.

Luckily, when all said and done, we still have those spin-offs coming down the line, one of which has already received a pilot order. Also, could we ever forget that author George R.R. Martin himself still has that Winds of Winter book he’s been promising for over half a decade now? When all said and done, Game of Thrones as a franchise is going nowhere.
