Game Of Thrones Prequel Casts Naomi Watts

Well, I didn’t expect to hear about casting for the Game of Thrones prequel for a good while. As it stands, we won’t be seeing the final season of Game of Thrones for several more months, and given that the network will want some gap between the show and its prequel, it seemed like we had some time. But there’s no time like the present, as they say, and work on the Game of Thrones prequel continues.

Variety is reporting that Naomi Watts will star in the impending prequel from Jane Goldman. We don’t know her name, but according to the outlet, she will be “a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret.” No further details were given, but ambitious women are no stranger to the world of Game of Thrones, with the likes of Cersei and Dany both vying for the throne in some form or another in the current series — and both willing to kill in order to get there.

But don’t expect too many other similarities. This prequel series is set to take place thousands of years before Game of Thrones, and will chronicle the era immediately following the Golden Age of Heroes, and will see its descent into darkness.

Goldman and author George R.R. Martin developed the story together, and Goldman will act as showrunner. This is one of five other Game of Thrones concepts in the work. Whether or not the other four will ever make it to this stage is up in the air, but we can’t rule out the possibility that another series could be on the way eventually.
