To think that an entire series of epic books like A Song of Ice and Fire could have been faithfully adapted to the small screen. Okay, so I guess the whole series technically wasn’t adapted since author George R.R. Martin is still writing them, but you get the point. Fantasy is a genre that has, for too long, not been treated well on the small screen, and Game of Thrones really helped to turn that perspective on its head, paving the way for other big fantasy series in the future.

But for this particular show, the end is fast approaching. HBO is paving the path towards the endgame of the game of thrones that’s been going on for several years, and the final season draws near. HBO has just released a new promo for the Final Season on their Twitter account. In it, we see an icy Castle Black. It’s a desolate landscape, and all we hear are the sounds of violent battle. That’s not all HBO had to share, they’ve been playing with the look of the Iron Throne for a while here, and now in this latest poster, we see many of our leads frozen into the ground and arranged to make up the Iron Throne itself. Quite fittingly, those at the top that make up those swords are resting on the bodies of their own soldiers.
