Geoff Johns To Write and Produce Green Lantern Corps. Movie, Step Down As CCO Of DC Entertainment

This is quite the interesting development for the ever-developing DC Extended Universe. One film that’s fluctuated a lot in terms of released date and all-around expectations is Green Lantern Corps. Following the mammoth failure that is the Green Lantern film (which was supposed to be the film that kickstarted the DC film universe), the studio knew they’d have to distance itself from that film in order to make it work.

Now, it has been announced the Geoff Johns, chief creative officer at DC Entertainment, will be stepping down from that position. But if you’re a Johns fan, then fret not, because he will be stepping into a more hands-on role in some of the creative stuff that’s coming out of DC. film. In fact, he will be set to actually produce content under his Mad Ghost Productions company. This content includes films, TV, and comics.

One of Johns’ first projects will be none other than the previously-mentioned Green Lantern Corps., for which he will produce and write the screenplay. It’s not clear at this point if he will be starting from scratch or continuing on any work that’s already been done.

“I took on a role at DCE because I love the characters and this universe more than anything. But, I want to spend my days writing and on set. I’m thrilled to get back to a more hands-on creative role. It’s a dream job on dream projects, reaching even deeper into DC’s vast pantheon of characters,” said Johns. “I’m also excited to continue to work with the amazing team at DCE and my colleagues at Warner Bros.”

On one hand, this is great news because Johns is a fantastic writer who has plenty of experience with the character, but on the other, this really does show that DC doesn’t have their ducks in a row at all. They’re still figuring out as they go, and we have no real reason to assume they have anything figured out.
