Without a doubt, one of the big series out there to hit any network — streaming or traditional — this year is Chernobyl. Not only did the series chronicle the horrific events that took place decades ago in the Ukrainian city of Pripyat, but it did so with such chilling quality that it couldn’t help but be the talk of the town during its run on HBO. Given its subject matter, potential parallels to today’s political climate, and its overall quality, it seems guaranteed to make a splash at the Emmys.

One other person who agrees with that is none other than author and screenwriter George R.R. Martin, who is best known for his Song of Ice and Fire novel series, which was the source material for the hit HBO show Game of Thrones. Here’s what Martin had to say on Twitter.

The dude isn’t wrong. While not exactly an “enjoyable” watch, there is no denying the great talent that went into its creation, and it is deserving of all the accolades…even if it is at the expense of one Game of Thrones. Honestly, given all the backlash that final season has received from fans, I’m sure many would be perfectly content to see Chernobyl take the cake this year.
