It’s hard to believe that we are already five years since the ending of the popular series from FX, Sons of Anarchy after seven seasons. Now we are on the second season and two episodes into the spin-off series Mayans M.C. The series follows Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes who is played by JD Pardo, who is a prospect in the Mayans M.C. charter on the California/Mexico broder. While he does his best to impress the club, EZ also has to try and reconcile with his brother Angel, who is played by Clayton Cardenas. If that wasn’t enough on his plate he is also getting closer to finding out the truth behind his mother’s death.

A few days ago FX released a short clip, Mayans M.C. Inside Season 2: Beginnings. Here the studio gives us a brief inside look at the cast coming together after some time off between seasons for a table read, you can check out the clip above. As you can see by video the table read gives the cast a time for them to re-connect after some time away from each other and focus back on the task at hand, in this case Season 2. They talk about how although the are each given their own scripts and lines, it’s not until the table read that the lines come to life and are “elevated” by the actors.

They also talk about how the creators have tone meetings with the directors where they can get a better idea about how they envision having the characters deliver their lines. Something else I found very interesting was the comments made by actor Edward James Olmos, who plays Felipe Reyes, EZ and Angel’s father in the series, who talked about how much of the script he learns. He says that individually going through the entire script is great if you are in charge of directing, but as an actor with a supporting role, he just looks at his part because that is all his character is going to have to know anyway. Olmos does not burden himself with extra information that does not pertain to him.

This is a great short that gives us a look at how the second season of Mayans M.C. gets started before filming. So far this season in my opinion has been better than the last season, last week’s episode Xaman-Ek was fantastic. This series is co-created by Kurt Sutter and Elgin James, who also serve as writers and executive producers alongside Kevin Dowling. It also stars Sarah Bolger, Michael Irby, Carla Baratta, Antonio Jaramillo, Raoul Max Trujillo, Richard Cabral, Danny Pino and Emilio Rivera.
