Get Out Actor Lakeif Stanfield Joins Candyman

Candyman, Candyman. We have some sweet news as Atlanta’s Lakeif Stanfield has joined the cast of director Jordan Peele’s (Get Out), dare I say it a third time, Candyman remake. Though Peele’s not in the director’s chair, he will be producing via his Monkeypaw Productions. Nia DaCosta who will direct the film is probably most well know for the Australian-American western crime thriller, Little Woods, which took home a Nora Ephron award from Tribeca in 2018.

Stanfield will play Anthony, “a socially pronounced artist in Chicago who researches the urban legend of Candyman. After investigating the killer’s last known whereabouts, strange killings begin to occur around Anthony.” The role seems very similar to Virginia Madsen’s portrayal of Helen Lyle from the 1992’s original Candy Man. The role had her researching superstitions on the North Side of Chicago’s Housing Projects.

Candyman is another character from the well spring of Barker’s imagination. Barker is also responsible for the sinfully mangled group of cenobites that accompany Pinhead, who became a fixture in American’s nightmares with the debut of the 1987 Clive Barker directed horror film Hellraiser. Another creature from the abyss of Barker’s mind is Mahogany, the phantom of 2008’s Ryuhei Kitamura directed Midnight Meat Train.

The Candyman mythos is based on The Forbidden, a short story appearing in macabre horror author Clive Barker’s Book of Blood, published in 1984 and 1985. Much like his colleague Stephen King, Hollywood has a penchant for adapting his works to varying degrees of success.

It sounds like horror fans will be in for a real treat come 2020 with this latest horror project from Jordan Peele’s .
