Ghostbusters 3’s Finn Wolfhard Didn’t Realize What He Was Auditioning For

Filmmakers have been trying to find a way to keep the plots of their movies secrets for decades. The great master of suspense Alfred Hitchcock famously bought all copies of the Robert Bloch novel Psycho just so audiences wouldn’t know how it ended. The studio execs apparently didn’t even know much about the movie. And here we are, decades later, with tons of high-profile projects being kept under lock and key.

Who would have thought one of those projects would be Ghostbusters 3. I mean, don’t get me wrong. I understand the fanbase behind this movie is rabid, so they’d be happy to get any details they can get (especially given the odd approach the studio seems to be taking), but Ghostbusters isn’t exactly a property that hinges on the “plot,” so to speak. But the filmmakers behind the movie have been so secretive that apparently, one of it stars — Stranger Things‘ Finn Wolfhard — didn’t even know what he was auditioning for.

When asked by MTV News if he’s had a chance to read a script, here’s what he said:

“Hell no. No, it’s all secret. I didn’t even know what I was auditioning for when I auditioned for it. [I was reading] just generic sides of a guy. And I was like, ‘Okay.'”

Hey, I’m all for the secrecy of movies — like many of you, I think Hollywood has a tendency to give just a little bit too much away in terms of their stories…but Ghostbusters? Part of me wonders if they’re keeping this close to the chest because of how passionate fans are, but I guess there could be some huge plot points coming from the movie.
