Grease Prequel Summer Loving In Development

I know you all love the musical Grease, but I also know there’s always been one nagging feeling you’ve had in the back of your heads. As Danny, Sandy, and their respective gangs are all singing the hit song “Summer Nights,” you found yourself scratching your heads. “I don’t get it,” you say. “They keep singing about this summer fling, but they’re not showing it, so it’s all been left up to my imagination.” Forget the fact that we see part of it at the beginning of the movie.

Well, if that’s ever been you, and you don’t have the imagination to make up some seedy prequel that took place before the opening credits, then don’t worry, Paramount will have you covered. According to Deadline, they are hard at work developing a prequel entitled Summer Loving, which is being written by Aladdin screenwriter John August. The film will follow that very summer when all the lovin’ was being loved. We’ll finally have the fateful question answer: whose version of the summer was actually right?

I apologize for all the sass I’m bringing, but it’s hard not to be about this whole thing. It’s just another prequel that really didn’t deserve to get made. That being said, the folks who love musicals will probably have a good time if this is done well enough, so you can’t blame a studio for trying. But what do you think of this possibility?
