I would have thought you were all crazy. Disney had made a very public example of James Gunn way back last July when they sacked him for a bunch of tweets sent years back. These tweets contained inappropriate humor, including jokes about pedophilia and other controversial stuff, and it really showed that Disney really had a zero tolerance policy when it comes to even mentioning that stuff.
There was a very public show of support for Gunn on the heels of that, with his actors coming out to support him. Even a lot of fans seemed to understand the fundamental differences between making a bad joke and actually doing something terrible. Gunn never made any excuses for his behavior, and earlier today, it was confirmed that he would be rejoining Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as director. He has since taken to Twitter to share a statement.

“I am tremendously grateful to every person out there who has supported me over the past few months. I am always learning and will continue to work at being the best human being I can be. I deeply appreciate Disney’s decision and am excited to continue making films that investigate the ties of love that bind us all. I have been, and continue to be incredibly humbled by your love and support. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Love to you all.”
