Remember when Logan came out and proved the film going audience had an appetite for a well-crafted and R Rated X-Men film? Well then, I have some news for you and it comes straight from the Instagram account of Visionary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro. You can check out the tweet below.
Watching @mang0ld ‘s LOGAN again I am struck by the Zen-Western, elegiac poetry of its script and the spartan brutality of its action. It’s that rare breed of film that enhances the mythology it closes. It betters the films that preceded it. One of the very best of its kind. pic.twitter.com/IWkuQKTHBY

Wow, those are big words coming from one of the most fantastical directors working today. Mangold must be elated. Del Toro has a knack for the visual and surreal as evident by the masterful Pan’s Labyrinth released in 2006. To this day I don’t think I have seen a monster as twisted as the Pale Man. Hell, that one sequence where 11-year-old Ofelia must escape after unwisely partaking in his meal still haunts me to this day. Del Toro is one of the most imaginative directors living today. So yeah, he got a real pat on the back by one of my favorite directors.

Of course, Logan is no slouch itself. It has a 92% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Logan marked a huge improvement over what the X Men franchise had started to resemble. The first X Men film directed by Bryan Singer was a promising start and showed us our first glimpse at a world where mutants ran in fear from humans. However, by the time we could see X-Men: The Last Stand, we were mistreated to a meme inspired Juggernaut. James Mangold certainly appeared to right the course for a franchise that had just delivered a poor man’s Apocalypse. Jeez, that film left me scratching my head. I mean what was next, a Shadow King inspired by the Teletubbies? I digress.
So yeah. Logan. See it if you haven’t, and if you have, do like del Toro and watch it again. I certainly plan to do so.
