HBO President Says Watchmen TV Script Is ‘Amazing,’ Hopes To Shoot This Year

While not everyone loved the Watchmen adaptation from director Zack Snyder, it was hard to argue that the filmmaker did his best to mostly realize Alan Moore’s original vision to the big screen. Sure, the infamous squid may have been missing, and sure, his superheroes may have actually been “super-powered” in their strength (in spite of the core premise revolving around normal dudes being vigilantes), but on the plot and character front, it didn’t hit too far off the mark.

Because of how faithful the film ultimately was to the graphic novel, it came as a shock when it was announced that HBO would be creating a new series based on the source material. Even stranger, this series would come from the “love him or hate him” writer Damon Lindelof, of LOST fame.

At the TCA winter tour, HBO president Casey Bloys gave a bit of an update on the show, saying:

“I’ve read the script, it’s amazing. I’m thrilled, I imagine we’ll shoot that this year.”

While this news is contradictory to earlier reports that it’d start shooting earlier this year, this is great to hear. Of course, he would never come out and say, “Oh God, we realize we made a huge mistake.” However, HBO isn’t really known for going ahead with garbage. The fact that he was willing to say they would likely shoot this year is a pretty good sign.
