Hereditary Director’s Next Film Midsommar Get Weird Trailer

Last year, director Ari Aster released the chilling horror film Hereditary. And as much as many films are often erroneously played up to be horrifying experiences, this one managed to actually meet expectations due to its unexpected twists and turns. Believe it or not, the dude already has his big follow-up ready for our consumption.

Well, almost. A24 sent us the brand-new trailer for Midsommar. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from this movie based on the images and poster given to us, but it’s clear that if you liked Hereditary, this will give you more of what you want, except instead of dark, fitting visuals, we have some eerily bright and cheery ones to jut up against the tone. Also, there’s this poster, which makes this feel like a generic indie movie.

The plot isn’t completely explained here, but it looks like a group of backpacking 20-somethings is visiting some sort of commune for a rare festival. I’m sure along the way some crazy blood ritual s**t goes down, and that’s when things start to hit the fan. At least that’s the impression I get. But I expect that’s what this trailer WANTS me to think, so maybe it’ll be something different altogether.

There also seems to be a pattern with this guy’s trailers. Hereditary had the clicking of the tongue as sort of a motif. This trailer has the deep breaths being taken, which does make this project feel like a real spiritual successor to Hereditary. That’s one way to make a brand!
