Hobbs & Shaw Director Wants To See [SPOILER] Return In Future Franchise Installments

Disclaimer: This post contains minor spoilers for Hobbs & Shaw.

I may not be the biggest Hobbs and Shaw fan under the sun, but I have to admit that there were a few moments of fun in there that I dug. One unexpected little gem came in the form of Ryan Reynolds, who played the agent Locke. This guy came in early on in the movie to give Hobbs the lowdown on the main MacGuffin of the movie as well as give plenty of laughs.

It was quite the random cameo, and is one of the more memorable scenes in the movie. But how did it come about? Speaking with Collider, director David Leitch discussed how he recruited Reynolds into another big Hollywood franchise.

Deadpool 2 was one of the best film experiences of my life…I came up with this idea. I had this sort of stuffy, expositional dialogue about the virus, and I had this epiphany one night. ‘I should have Ryan [Reynolds] be the guy that gives the exposition — because he’s going to make it fun.’ And so I called him…and he’s like ‘I’m in.’…I sent him the pages. He did his Ryan Thing [on the pages].”

Interestingly enough, that one scene wasn’t the only time we saw the character of Locke. He had a few more small scenes, as well as one more expositional moment in the post-credits scene. But it also hints at the character’s return down the line. Leitch himself would be happy to see him return.

“I wanna see Locke carry on in this world. Fingers crossed we can have Locke in more installments of Hobbs & Shaw, or Locke in any standalone Fast thing he wants to do.”
