House Of The Dragon Co-Creator Originally Wanted To Do A Dunk & Egg Series

The Dunc and Egg casting has been confirmed by HBO for their A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms prequel to Game of Thrones.

The world of A Song of Ice and Fire is vast and varied, and there are thousands and thousands of years of history and many different countries that can be explored, so it came as no surprise when we learned there were a handful of shows being developed over at HBO. The question wasn’t whether or not we’d get one, but what these shows would be.

As it stands, the lone survivor thus far is House of the Dragon, a series created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal, of Colony fame. This show will lead up to the civil war between the Targaryens…but this wasn’t always something Condal himself wanted to do.

According to Martin, Condal wanted to adapt Martin’s Dunk and Egg stories, which follow the adventures of a hedge knight and squire and currently consist of three novellas and have been collected in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Of course, those stories were one of the many that were speculated to be in development. Here’s what Martin said about the matter on his blog.

“[Condal] is also a huge fan of my Dunk & Egg stories.   In fact, that was the show he wanted to do initially, but I’m not prepared to bring Dunk & Egg to television until I’ve written quite a few more stories”

In other words…don’t expect it any time soon, as Martin still has a lot of other work he’d have to focus on before that time. Would you want a Dunk and Egg series? Let us know down below!
