House of the Dragon has received a full series order over at HBO, and with that, we can all wring our hands in anticipation over what the show can be. We already know that it’ll at least be partially based on the book Fire & Blood, which author George R.R. Martin released earlier this year — in spite of fans’ bitterness over The Winds of Winter not being released.

But Fire & Blood isn’t exactly a typical novel, as it covers decades of family history, so it’s not as clear-cut as to which story is actually being told. With that in mind, are there any other pieces of work we should read? Martin himself took to his blog to give us an extra bit of insight on that very question.

“If you’d like to know a bit more of what the show will be about… well, I can’t actually spill those beans, but you might want to pick up a copy of two anthologies I did with Gardner Dozois, DANGEROUS WOMEN and ROGUES, and then move on to Archmaester Gyldayn’s history, FIRE & BLOOD.”

You know what that’s called? Synergy, yo. I bet you we see all three of those books start rising up in the Amazon rankings in the year or two it takes to bring House of the Dragon to HBO. I know that I’ll certainly be picking them up.
