Hulu Announces Season 2 Premiere Of Castle Rock

The Stephen King-inspired series Castle Rock is retuning to Hulu with a second season. The horror/thriller series—centered around the fictional town created by King himself in many of his novels—will be back just in time for Halloween, premiering October 23rd on the streaming service. The twitter account for the show announced the news Thursday morning.

Using the caption “Misery arrives October 23,” the second season looks to take a bit more from Kong’s works by incorporating the character Annie Wilkes. Annie Wilkes is of course the antagonist in King’s novel Misery, who was played in an iconic performance by legendary actress Kathy Bates in the film adaptation. In Castle Rock, Wilkes will be played by Lizzie Caplan (Masters Of Sex, Cloverfield).

Also joining the cast this season is Tim Robbins (War Of The Worlds, Bull Durham), who will be portraying Reginald “Pop” Merrill. Merrill was featured in the King short story The Sun Dog. This will be Robbins’ second production in a Stephen King adaptation, having started in the critically acclaimed 90s film adaptation The Shawshank Redemption. Rounding out the easter egg characters, Paul Sparks (House Of Cards, The Night Of) will be playing Pop’s nephew, John “Ace” Merrill. Ace was featured in the King short story The Body, which was the inspiration for the 80s classic Stand By Me.

The second season of Castle Rock premieres on Hulu October 23rd. The complete first season is available to stream in its entirety, making the series a perfect addition to your horror-themed binging leading up to Halloween.
