Hunger Games Prequel In The Works, Novel Also On The Way

If you didn’t get your fill of child-centric violence in a high-tech arena from the four Hunger Games films that hit earlier this decade, then we have some good news for you. Lionsgate is a studio that apparently likes to make money, and as such, they are looking back to the ever-plentiful well in hopes of drawing new water. According to THR, the studio is working “closely” with author of the series, Suzanne Collins, on a prequel movie set 64 years before the original novels and movies.

“As the proud home of the Hunger Games movies, we can hardly wait for Suzanne’s next book to be published,” Joe Drake, chairman of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said Monday in a statement. “We’ve been communicating with her during the writing process and we look forward to continuing to work closely with her on the movie.”

The 64-year-before-the-original-film is an odd timeframe, as it means it’ll be taking place during the 10th annual Hunger Games. This particular Games was mentioned in the books and the eventual victor was shot in they, pulled out the arrow from his eyes, stabbing a girl to death with said arrow. Pretty baller stuff, but is this really the kind of story we want to go back to the well for?

If moving pictures aren’t your thing, Collins has another novel set to hit bookshelves May 2020, and this one will also be a prequel…so you’ll soon be covered plenty when it comes to Hunger Games canon.
