In A Bid To Stay On As The Flash Ezra Miller Teams Up With Grant Morrison To Write A Script

Ezra Miller's Hawaiian Adventure Part 2: The Second Arrest

It’s almost a literal night and day comparison between the vision that Zack Snyder had for the DC Universe and the light hearted approach that we have recently seen in James Wan’s Aquaman as well as the upcoming SHAZAM! film directed by David Sandberg, which is already generating a lot of positive buzz for the amount of “fun” the film has. If you think about a character like The Flash, you would think his character would also fit this light hearted mold that Warner Bros. is favoring.

But actor Ezra Miller, who is currently the DCEU Universe’s Barry Allen aka The Flash, first appearing briefly in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice and also in Suicide Squad, then fully in Justice League, is taking matters into his own hands in a bid to keep himself as The Flash. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Miller is switching hats and trying to write a script for a Flash feature film. He has teamed up with the acclaimed comic book writer Grant Morrison to put together a draft that could be the determining factor if he will stay on as Barry Allen or not going forward.

The one issue is that it is said that Miller’s script would have a darker take on the material. Something that Warner Bros. as we already mentioned seems to be wanting to move away from. It doesn’t help his case either that John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein have been working on the project since January of last year, who seem to be taking a light hearted approach on the material.

Getting The Flash a feature film has been a rocky journey from the start, having gone through several directors and writers. It seems like the only constant has been Miller, who was first cast by Snyder. But with Miller’s holding deal on the Flash expiring in May, Miller and Morrison must work quickly to try and impress Warner Bros. with their script. It is said that they could possibly submit something to them as early as next week.

It is great to see an actor being so passionate about his character. I would like to think that Miller really wants the opportunity to show audiences his vision of Barry Allen with out the distractions of other heroes. Personally, I would love to see him take on Captain Cold and the rest of the Rouges, nothing too crazy that would allow the characters to shine.

The next DCEU film to hit theaters will be SHAZAM! on April 5th, 2019.
