Incredibles 2 Honest Trailer: Guess It WAS Kind Of A Rehash, Wasn’t It?

This past summer saw the release of Brad Bird’s Incredibles 2, which, against all odds, managed to impress audiences and critics alike, grossing over $1.2 billion at the box office, setting a new record for Pixar — an already-impressive and profitable studio for the House of Mouse. But just because it took in wads of cash and sat well with critics and audiences doesn’t make it a perfect film.

By and large, this new episode of Honest Trailers leans heavily into just how similar this flick is from the first one. They both revolve around a couple of normal people using technology against superheroes; they both revolve around the idea of superheroes working to garner public favor; and they both revolve around the family learning to fight together.

Yeah, I guess when you break it down like that it does kind of feel derivative of that first one, but there is no denying that it’s a solid foundation on which to build your film, and that the details surrounding them are different enough that it still feels pretty different. Though the irony of all this is that we waited over 15 years because director Brad Bird didn’t want to make a film until he knew he had a story, and yet the story he came up with was pretty rehashed of his own work.

Oh, well. I’d take this over any cars film any day of the week. But what about you? Do you subscribe to these same complaints as Screen Junkies? Sound off down below!
