Indiana Jones To Once Again Trek The Globe

It takes time for greatness to manifest. In the case of Steven Spielberg and his films, fans can sometimes expect at least a few years of delay between each MAJOR cinematic film. The man needs some breathing room. He’s responsible for deftly creating some of the most interesting films no matter what genre he’s operating under the guise of. Spielberg is a cinematic living legend. It’s like the equivalent to the end of The Dark Knight Rises when the Batman statue is unveiled, and then we realize Batman is still alive in Paris. Like I said, a living legend.

Hell, if I had to do a highlight reel of the favorite films from my childhood, it would likely be a highlight reel of the man’s work. Jesus, he’s been making films since before my mom and dad conceived me. Whether we’re talking about 1975’s Jaws, 1981’s Raiders of The Lost Ark, 1984’s The Color Purple, 1991’s Hook, 1993’s Jurassic Park, or 2001’s Minority Report. When Spielberg steps up to the directing plate, he knocks the cinematic ball right out the park.

Indy 5 producer Frank Marshall just announced that Indiana Jones will be returning to his globetrotting temple running roots and escaping the stateside confines he was restricted to in 2008’s Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull. Good news. Now for the sad news. The new release date is set for July 9, 2021 (though we’ve known for months that they wouldn’t make the 2020 date). Also, this will be Harrison Ford’s last outing as Indiana Jones. Yes folks, it’s likely Ford will pass on the safari hat wearing mantle to a younger star. With all the gender swapping we’re starting to see and inclusion of others races as characters. I immediately wonder if maybe we’ll see a female character carry the torch and light this franchise into the future. Or maybe we’ll get an Asian, Latin, or African American star next.

Check out the announcement below. What do you think of the franchise’s future?
