Here at LRM Online, we are proud to champion diversity and inclusion in film-making. The Hollywood landscape is rapidly changing. These ripples of change are affecting not just the big budget studio productions, but indie filmmakers are actively advocating change. Just take independent filmmaker Dilan Jay as an example.
The first-time indie filmmaker recently won the top award at Austin’s action festival, Iron Dragon TV Action Fest for his filmHollow Point. This is a huge win. In fact, it’s the fourth award Hollow Point has won thus far. Dilan is advocating change both in front and behind the camera. He has filled key behind the scenes roles with women. For Hollow Point, Dilan employed a female Director of Photography, Line Producer, and 1st Assistant Director. In addition to the women working in key roles on Hollow Point, Dilan also recast his lead role for a woman too. Veteran actress from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Juju Chan is the lead in Hollow Point.
Commenting on the win, Dilan Jay said: “Winning Best Action Film at my first ever festival in America is a huge honor, and it’s a testament to the hard work my team put in to make this film not only entertaining, but something meaningful to watch.”
It’s also worth noting just how difficult and rigorous the acceptance process for Iron Dragon TV Fest was. The Austin based film festival only limits the number of accepted films to a total of 50 films. It’s also noteworthy that Hollow Point screened as an official selection at the 5th Annual Jackie Chan International Action Film Week, and the NIAFFS in Seville, Spain. Hollow Point took home 3 awards at the festival including Best Director, Best Score, and Best Male Stuntman.
Hollow Point also stars Hellboy: The Golden Army’s Luke Gross, Jerry Maguire’s Michael Pare, and last but not least Bill Duke from Predator.
