Is Stranger Things 3 A Hit With The Critics?

Are you a Stranger Things fan?  What am I saying, of course you are!  I have to admit, I initially did not want to hop on board the Stranger Things train, but peer pressure persisted, and am I glad it did.  About a year ago I binge-watched both seasons in the span of a couple of days (no shame) and recently re-watched the series in preparation for the Season 3 premiere which hits Netflix this coming Thursday, July 4!! (Murica!!)

Now yes, I am using Rotten Tomatoes as a primary source BUT before anyone jumps on my back about it, the site goes on to mention the critical response from numerous other outlets which seems to be…extremely positive!

According to Rotten Tomatoes,  the series earned one of the fastest designations in site history as the reviews jumped to 93% within the first day.  Now you may not be sold on the review site, but they went on to compile an assortment of review from various outlets:

“Reliable, durable and comfortable, ST3 is what you’d expect and certainly what you want, if what you “want” is seasons 1 and 2, with a few big twists along the way.” — Verne Gay, Newsday

“Our heroes are not the goofy young kids they used to be. The third series realigns and reconfigures them in new combinations and allegiances.” — Suzi Feay, Financial Times

Stranger Things finally becomes the sort of extravagant, exceedingly ambitious adventure spectacle that would have ruled the theaters during the ’80s, instead of a TV series merely obsessed with films from that decade.” — Kevin Yeoman, ScreenRant

“Despite its rocky start, the creators and performers find a way to pull off the impossible and deliver the best season yet, all while honoring their loyal fan base and challenging them to want more from a series known for playing it safe.” — Patrick Cavanaugh, ComicBook.com

While the majority are singing the praises of the Duffer Brothers’ third season, there are some reservations as well:

“It harnesses a Big Summer Mood, a healthy heap of nostalgia and has plenty of fun references. But its story is also convoluted and far too scattered.” — Allison Keene, Paste Magazine

“It’s a thin imitation of what we used to have, who could blame anyone for clinging to it?” — Judy Berman, TIME Magazine

Will this stop many of us from watching the third installment?  Absolutely not!  My wife has already told me that I must celebrate July 4 by coming outside and that binging Stranger Things 3 is not celebrating.  I’ll make it work though.

What are your thoughts on Stranger Things 3?  Do you take these reviews to heart, or do you pass them off and like to judge for yourself?  How do you plan on balancing the holiday and watching the show?  Leave your thoughts in the usual spot, and thanks for reading!

The cast includes: Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), Will (Noah Schnapp), Max (Sadie Sink), Nancy (Natalia Dyer), Jonathan (Charlie Heaton), and Steve (Joe Keery).

Stranger Things 3 hits Netflix on July 4.
