Is The Robert Pattison Batman Rumor A Ploy By Warner Bros?

Well… well… well… it’s been about a day now since the world found out that the front runner to play Bruce Wayne, aka Batman aka the Dark Knight, in Matt Reeves’ upcoming Batman standalone film was Twilight alumni Robert Pattison and the reactions have been intense. It’s adorable when fans over-react to rumors they quickly run over to Change.org to create petitions and start boycotts and what not to try and sway studios. But could this reaction be exactly what Warner Bros. was looking for?

In The Hollywood Reporter weekly newsletter titled Heat Vision, we are told that the casting of Batman is still an ongoing process that include all kinds of screen tests, costume tests, readings and meetings to determine the final choice. But that in fact deep conversations are being had. Of course with everyone reacting to the news yesterday it’s tough to determine what is going on some say it’s a short list, others say they are in negotiations while others are reporting that a deal is done.

The casting of Batman is a huge deal for Warner Bros. as they consider his character the most important brand as he is arguably the most popular superhero character in the world, more than any other single DC or Marvel character. This is why executives are being “extremely meticulous” in picking the lead for what they hope is the next trilogy for Batman. They are hoping to avoid the same Ben Affleck debate with their next pick.

So what if this information leak or rumor is just a type of test that Warner Bros. is putting out there to see people’s reactions before they make their final choice? It would make perfect sense as it now allows them to take everyone’s reaction into consideration and possibly make a better choice for the iconic character. So until we get an OFFICIAL announcement from Warner Bros. I am going to sit back and enjoy the rest of the internet stress out about it.

Do you think Pattison will end up as Batman? Or could this rumor just be a part of the studio’s rigorous casting process? Let us know in the comment section below!

The next Warner Bros. DC film is the standalone Joker film on October 4th, 2019.
