It Turns Out Zack Snyder Wasn’t Planning To Make An MCU-Like DC Universe

Think back to the year of 2012. The Avengers had just come out, and all of a sudden, everyone was itching to see DC put out their own shared universe of films. Instead, we got Man of Steel, a movie that was pretty darn standalone, with only hints to a future world to be played in. When we finally did get a film that promised a shared universe, it came in the form of Batman v Superman a few years later, and to many people, it seemed to be rushing to get to the good parts of The Avengers without laying all the groundwork.

But what if that wasn’t Zack Snyder’s plan at all? Now, don’t get us wrong, that’s kind of what ended up happening, but from the sound of it, the filmmaker’s own hopes and dreams seem to have had less overall ambition than the studio ended up forcing on his films. One Vero user suggested the following:

“I’ll just say, I think zack was going for an arc that wasn’t concerned with having spin off films and it would have been a self contained world…and I very much like that. A TDK Trilogy with the JL that has a beg and end.”

So is this what Zack Snyder was actually thinking? Snyder himself responded with a simple “yes.”

The more I look at how Justice League ended up, the more I have to agree with that assessment. From day one with Man of Steel, folks lamented the fact that Superman didn’t act like Superman, and based on how Justice League ended, I can see it being the culmination of how Superman ended up as the Superman from the comics. It has a beginning with him coming out to the world, the middle, which sees the backlash against him, and the end, which sees his resurrection and taking on the personality of Earth’s true protector.

It’s all really very beautiful, and it makes me wish, all the more, to be given the opportunity to see how it would have culminated if Snyder was still in charge at the end. Sure, it likely would have been as controversial as any Snyder piece, but it would have been unique in how it told a complete story in three films in a growing universe.

What do you think of this idea? Do you wish Snyder had control at the end? Sound off down below!
