Jai Courtney Give His Thoughts On Reprising His Role As Captain Boomerang In Suicide Squad

2016’s Suicide Squad from director David Ayer may not have had a good plot, but it did have a lot of great individual characters. Of course we know that Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn was the big winner out of the group but we know that there were quite a few others that we thought at first were no longer going to be included in future films but now we know that they will in fact take part in James Gunn’s version of the Suicide Squad. One of those characters was George “Digger” Harkness also known as the classic Flash villain Captain Boomerang who is played by actor Jai Courtney.

ComingSoon.net recently had the opportunity to talk with Courtney about what he liked about the chracter and his thoughts about returning to the role of Boomerang.

“I love playing this character!” Courtney said. “He’s just super rambunctious and gets a lot of funny lines. i just have such a good time with it. It’s easy in a way because David Ayer told me on the first movie to find my inner shitbag, and I think it’s not that far below the surface. It’s fun with boomer because there’s an irreverence to it all. It’s just a good time, it’s not so important to him. It’s all a bit of a gag, a bit of a laugh. It’s fun to have all these amazing people around on these amazing sets and play with all these toys and also get to be an Australian, man. It’s funny, I sometimes take that for granted as an actor because we’re always in different worlds. Even something as simple as not having an accent frees you up! There’s a freedom within that. There’s an immediacy to it that makes it feel a little more natural. Sometimes it’s fun to run away from natural and transform, and sometimes it’s fun to feel like you know this guy intimately.”

Along with Courtney and the already mentioned Robbie, we know that Viola Davis aka Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman aka Rick Flag will be presumably playing the same roles as before. The cast is also being made up of others like David Dastmalchian, John Cena, Joaquin Cosio, Nathan Fillion, Maylin Ng, Flula Borg, Sean Gunn, Juan Deigo Botto, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, Taika Waititi, Alice Brage, Steve Agee, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Peter Capaldi, Julio Ruiz, Jennifer Holland, Idris Elba and Michael Rooker. The film was written by Gunn and Chuck Roven and Peter Safran will serve as producers with Nik Korda as executive producer.

I am glad that Courtney is back for another shot at the character. He has some great moments in Suicide Squad and I look forward to see what Gunn does with his character. Are you happy that Courtney is back as Captain Boomerang? Let us know in the comment section below!

Warner Bros. Pictures’ The Suicide Squad is set to be released August 6th, 2021.
