James Gunn’s Suicide Squad Working Title

David Ayer’s 2016 Suicide Squad had the potential to be a great. But we know that unfortunately that was not the case in the end. What is left of Suicide Squad is Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and possibly Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller. Most of the team is being either replaced or re-cast for what is being called a soft relaunch. For example we got word earlier this week that Idris Elba is in talks to replaced Will Smith as Deadshot, which would be a huge upgrade. We also got word about some new possible characters like Ratchatcher, King Shark, Polka-Dot Man and Peacemaker. Without a doubt James Gunn who is writing the script as well as directing the film is doing his best to make this film his own.

More news today regarding the next Suicide Squad film from Production Weekly via comicbook.com that the film will be filming under the working title “El Dorado”. Could this have any connection to the plot of the film? Possibly, El Dorado is a legendary Spanish tale about a hidden city or empire that holds many riches and knowledge, most of the time it’s known as the lost city of gold. In the MCU film Black Panther, they’ve made reference to the legendary place saying that Wakanda was actually the basis for the legend of El Dorado.

Could this mean that Gunn’s film could feature a plot where Task Force X is searching for something of high value to Amanda Waller? This is a type of mission that is typical in Suicide Squad story arc’s in comic books. One time for example they broke out General Zod to force him to join the team during the early Rebirth run written by Rob Williams in 2016.

Given what Gunn was able to do with 2 Guardians of the Galaxy films, I am very excited to see what he has in mind for his vision of the Suicide Squad. His work was good enough that all though Disney fired him last July, Marvel Studios will still be using his original draft of the script for the next Guardians of the Galaxy film.

What do you think should be the plot for Gunn’s Suicide Squad film? Let us know in the comment section below!

Currently The Suicide Squad is scheduled to be released on August 6th, 2021.
